2014 Summer Program
On September 2nd, 31 BCE, two fleets clashed off Actium, a Greek city halfway between Rome, in Italy, and Alexandria, in Egypt. The ships represented two factions of a Roman Civil war: Rome in the West, Egypt and the East. In some accounts it is a bout between former allies – Octavian, who would become Cesar Augustus, and Cleopatra, the most powerful woman in the world.
Choose a side. Construct an oared galley, rowers, marines and arms. Build the thrones the rulers represented. Reenact the clashes that marked the rise of the Roman Empire and the fall of Cleopatra, Queen of kings.
